    Lake Baikal, the world’s oldest and deepest freshwater lake, curves for nearly 400 miles through south-eastern Siberia, north of the Mongolian border. At its deepest point it is over 5,000 feet (1,637 meters) deep.

    It is the world's largest freshwater lake in terms of volume. It contains about 5,521 cubic miles of water (23,013 cubic kilometers), or approximately 20% of Earth's fresh surface water. This is a volume of water approximately equivalent to all five of the North American Great Lakes combined.

Yuri Gagarin: First Man in Space

    Yuri Gagarin was the first person to fly in space. His flight, on April 12, 1961, lasted 108 minutes as he circled the Earth for a little more than one orbit in the Soviet Union's Vostok spacecraft. Following the flight, Gagarin became a cultural hero in the Soviet Union. Even today, more than six decades after the historic flight, Gagarin is widely celebrated in Russian space museums, with numerous artifacts, busts and statues displayed in his honor. His remains are buried at the Kremlin in Moscow, and part of his spacecraft is on display at the RKK Energiya museum.

    The Trubetskoy House Museum is part of the historical Decembrists Museum. It was established at the end of 1970. The house was built in the mid-19th century for one of Sergei Trubetskoy‘s daughters. The museum displays the Trubetskoy family's original belongings, as well as some valuable paintings.

Tula 2007
    The building of the People's House, which now houses the Young People's Theatre, is famous for being the place where the Soviet regime was proclaimed in Tula and the province on December 7, 1917. Much more interesting is the fate of the Church of the Prophet Elijah, which we see in the background of the old photo. The wooden church existed on this place as early as 1627. In 1755 a two-storey stone church was built. It was the Cathedral of Tula from 1924 to 1943. The building was taken away from the church for workshops. At present the church has been returned to the faithful.

    Susan Weller is the creator of Holly Pond Hill, an exquisitely detailed watercolor world of gentle creatures. The artist herself is originally from Texas and has lived in a rural setting. Her paintings display a Victorian style with a touch of Provence - soft pastel tones, brown, burgundy, lilac, pink, green. "Stuffed" interior with all sorts of cute knickknacks, lots of colors and natural materials.

The paintings are imbued with family warmth, love, celebration of everyday life.

Steep Coast

    A steep coast^[1] is a stretch of coastline where the mainland descends abruptly into the sea. There is a sharp transition from the land to sea as opposed to that on a flat coast where the land descends gradually seawards. The height of the land on a steep coast is well above sea level.

    Most steep coast are rocky cliffed coasts (also called abrasion coasts), where the erosion processes of wave action result in a steep declivity. Another type of steep coast is the fjord which is formed when a glacial valley lies partially under water as a result of a rise in sea levels. In Norway, New Zealand or Alaska there are fjords whose almost vertical sides tower over 1,000 metres above the water and plunge 300 metres below it.

    On volcanic islands the sea can enter the caldera and the face of the volcanic pipe can form a steep coastline. The best-known example of that is Santorini in the archipelago of the Cyclades in Greeces. Fira, the main town of the island, lies on the rim of the caldera which is around 300 metres above the sea and drops below it for another 200 metres.
