AROZONA THE GRAND CANYON STATE

Special Thanks to NORTHCOTE  for the map card sent 19 NOV.

A land of Native American and Spanish origins before becoming a state of the United States, the word Arizona has different translations. In the Indian language Arizona translates to "little spring" and in Spanish Arizona comes from the Spanish árida zona, "dry area". The United States took Arizona from Mexico after the Mexican-American War in 1848; Arizona officially became the 48th state of the United States on February 14, 1912. Located in the southwestern part of the United States, let's discover the West!

One of the most famous sites in this vast region is the Grand Canyon. It was dug with the current of the Colorado River. It has an average depth of 1 300m and a width ranging from 5.5 to 30 km. These dimensions make it one of the most impressive sites in Arizona.

The City of Phoenix

Phoenix, the capital of Arizona, is a city with a peaceful atmosphere and a dry, warm climate. Its proximity to the Sonora Desert and its temperatures have earned it the nickname "Sun City".

This (state) capital has many cultural sites to visit but also a lot of activities.

The must-see park in the city is Papago Park. It offers several activities such as the Desert Botanical Garden (21,000 plants), the famous Phoenix Zoo, as well as a huge golf course, this site has something to delight the whole family!

The city of Phoenix has several museums, but the most popular museums are the Heard Museum (Native American arts) and the Phoenix Art Museum.

There are also many sports activities to enjoy with family and friends. For the more athletic, Mount Camelback is a must-see. Rising to 825 meters, it is part of the Echo Canyon recreational area but is reserved for experienced climbers!

Let's not forget one last heritage... gastronomic this time: the cuisine! Indeed, because of its history and the strong Hispanic presence, the city of Phoenix offers a large choice of restaurants and cuisines. Take advantage of a lunch break to taste the authentic Mexican cuisine for example, but beware of the spices!
