ZAMOSC-Kosciol Fanciszkaow

Thanks to Kasia and Tomek. for the nice card ,sent 27 July 2021.

    The Franciscan church was the biggest temple in Zamość and one of the biggest in Poland. Its construction started in 1637 and the first mass was celebrated eighteen years later. The founders of the temple were the Second Entailer Tomasz Zamoyski and his wife Katarzyna, née Ostrogska. After the dissolution of the monastery in 1784, the church was turned into a military storehouse, and in 1840 it was converted into barracks. After 1918, the building housed various institutions, such as a museum and the cinema "Stylowy". In the postwar years, part of the premises was used by the State Secondary School of Fine Arts. Starting from the interwar years, the Church made efforts to regain the temple, as a result of which, in 1993, after two hundred years, Franciscans returned to its walls. Nineteenth-century reconstructions significantly impoverished the building, but the preserved stone elements, especially Corinthian pilasters and Baroque portal on the western wall (formerly the main entrance), remind of its former glory.

HITORICAL ELEVATOR BUILDING

 The historical Elevator was built by Nessim Levy, a Jewish businessman, in 1907 to over come the topographic barrier between the districts of Mithatpasa Street and Halil Rifat Pasa Street.

The Elevator is one of the artworks of the recent period to be seen in the city center. Giving its name to the district in which it is located, thanks to its location, the historical Elevator is the best structure to watch the view of Izmir. The upper promenade of the elevator boasts a cafe and a restaurant in which visitors can relax and get an unparalleled view of the Gulf of Izmir. Now operated with electricity, originally both elevators in the structure were water driven. The charming old street at the foot of the elevator is named after Dario Moreno, an international singer and a native of Izmir. There is also a statue of the famous artist at the end of the street and a cafe and a stylish restaurant.

The Elevator, whose similar ones can be found in a few countries offers a unique Izmir sight.

Todaiji Temple,Nara

Todaiji Temple,Nora
 Special Thanks to Yuka for the nice card;
 Todaiji (東大寺, Tōdaiji, "Great Eastern Temple") is one of Japan's most famous and historically significant temples and a landmark of Nara. The temple was constructed in 752 as the head temple of all provincial Buddhist temples of Japan and grew so powerful that the capital was moved from Nara to Nagaoka in 784 in order to lower the temple's influence on government affairs.

Tula 2007
    The building of the People's House, which now houses the Young People's Theatre, is famous for being the place where the Soviet regime was proclaimed in Tula and the province on December 7, 1917. Much more interesting is the fate of the Church of the Prophet Elijah, which we see in the background of the old photo. The wooden church existed on this place as early as 1627. In 1755 a two-storey stone church was built. It was the Cathedral of Tula from 1924 to 1943. The building was taken away from the church for workshops. At present the church has been returned to the faithful.

Susan Veller and her bunny mice

Susan Veller and her bunny mice

 Thanks to Alesia for the nice card from Russia 31/07/2021

    Susan Weller is the creator of Holly Pond Hill, an exquisitely detailed watercolor world of gentle creatures. The artist herself is originally from Texas and has lived in a rural setting. Her paintings display a Victorian style with a touch of Provence - soft pastel tones, brown, burgundy, lilac, pink, green. "Stuffed" interior with all sorts of cute knickknacks, lots of colors and natural materials.

The paintings are imbued with family warmth, love, celebration of everyday life.
